Hoval UltraGas condensing boilers are a common sight in large commercial plant rooms. You’ll find them in office buildings, schools, blocks of flats, hotels, industrial sites and heat networks. Why Use a Hoval Specialist?

Large condensing boilers behave very differently from the atmospheric and forced draught plant many engineers learned on. On a Hoval UltraGas, the details matter:

  • Heat exchanger condition. Fouling on the gas side reduces output and efficiency, and it needs the right cleaning method for the heat exchanger type.
  • Condensate management. A blocked siphon or neutraliser will lock the boiler out. A poorly routed drain causes repeat faults.
  • Return connections. UltraGas boilers have separate high and low temperature returns. If the system isn’t using them correctly, the boiler condenses less and costs more to run.
  • Premix burner set-up. The gas/air ratio has to be right across the full modulation range, not just at one firing point.
  • Controls. The TopTronic E controller holds the fault history, sequencing and BMS settings that explain most problems.

Hoval Equipment We Work On

  • UltraGas 2: Hoval’s current gas condensing boiler, with outputs from 125kW to 1550kW as a single boiler and up to 3100kW as a double boiler. It uses the TurboFer heat exchanger and separate high and low temperature returns.
  • UltraGas (first generation): aluFer heat exchanger and modulating premix burner. Still widely installed and in daily service across the UK.
  • TopTronic E controls: boiler and system control, cascade sequencing and BMS integration.
  • Older Hoval steel boilers: fired by separate forced draught burners, which we also service and repair.

Hoval FAQs

How often should a Hoval UltraGas be serviced?
At least once a year. Boilers on heat networks or running long hours may need more frequent heat exchanger and condensate checks. We’ll recommend a schedule based on how your plant runs.

Can you service Hoval boilers on a heat network or in a block of flats?
Yes. We work with managing agents and facilities teams, and we’ll plan visits to keep heating and hot water available to residents wherever the plant allows.

Are UltraGas 2 boilers hydrogen-ready?
Hoval designs the UltraGas 2 to run on biomethane, and to be convertible to hydrogen as supply develops. For now they run on natural gas, and we service them to Hoval’s standard for natural gas operation.
